Très belle traduction de Gilgamesh (Aurélien Clause – Editions Synchronique)


Très joli objet : le format de poche est extrêmement pratique et superbement illustré. L'introduction est fascinante et propose au lecteur moins averti le contexte de ce mythe fondateur. Il s'agit d'une "version" plutôt que d'une "traduction" (pour citer Stephen Mitchell (traducteur) et de "rendre son souffle" à la littérature grâce à l'alexandrin (Aurélien Clause, traducteur). Il s'agit bien d'un mythe mais aussi, il ne fallait pas l'oublier, d'un œuvre littéraire et c'est certainement la raison pour laquelle j'apprécie tellement cette version de Gilgamesh : son écriture, qui mêle la poésie et une langue contemporaine :

Un roman dont le titre est une question, ce n’est pas courant. Soit la réponse est dans le texte, soit, c’est au lecteur de la trouver. Fabrice Humbert a gagné le pari de nous faire réfléchir sur le mythe du héros à travers un héros – en fait, plutôt le personnage principal, ne mélangeons pas tout !- peu héroïque en fin de compte ! Professeur, mais pas ce professeur passionnant, en quête de projets ambitieux, non, un professeur médiocre, à la scolarité médiocre, qui, malgré un prénom qui le prédestinait à l’héroïsme, malgré une enfance baignée dans cette notion éprouvée par un père héros de la résistance, ne sera jamais ce héros qu’il rêve d’incarner !

Struggling 1st grade readers improve with the help of OneNote Learning Tools

I teach first grade. But even if I taught 6th grade or high school, if a child struggles with comprehension and fluency, chances are that the student cannot recognize basic sight words. Just think about this for a moment. If a child cannot read the high frequency words (for example, Fry words or Dolch words), how can he or she remember what the sentence is saying while they struggle through each and every word in that sentence? Our Epic Nonfiction Picture Book Project Take 2

For the past few years, my students have written nonfiction picture books for younger audiences around the world.  Last year, I decided to share the lesson plan to serve as inspiration for those who wanted it, and this year I thought I would do the same.  While the foundation is the same, the process has been tweaked a bit for a more meaningful experience for the students.

My Child Is Not A Struggling Reader

Reading Rainbow’s LeVar Burton Reads His New Book to Our 1st Grade Students

The first grade students in Mrs. Wyckoff’s and Mrs. Rickert’s homerooms got a special treat yesterday.  LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow called us via Skype to read his new book “The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm” and to talk to our students about ways they can deal with being sad.

1st Grade Skype with Author Jonathan Emmett

Our first graders had a blast recently when they got to connect on Skype with author Jonathan Emmett in England.  The children had recently read one of Mr. Emmett’s books in their reading program about a duck named Ruby.  In order to share with Mr. Emmett how much they liked his story, each student created and wore a duck hat, and students created posters illustrating different scenes from the story.  During the call Mr. Emmett took some time to read This Way Ruby, one of his many books.… Visit the author's original post

World Read Aloud Day Skypathon

March 4th was World Read Aloud Day. To celebrate, several South Elementary classes participated in a World Read Aloud Day Skypathon in which they were partnered with classes from around the world to read picture books. Classes connected via Skype or sent videos reading their favorite picture book to their partner class, and then took a turn listening to a story from their new friends.

Why Book Clubs Suck And We Need to Talk About

Virtual Field Trip to Yellowstone to Learn about Volcanoes

Our 3rd grade students have been learning about volcanoes recently.  Despite their research, there were questions they had that were not being answered by their books.  In order to help them, Ranger Christeal took them on a virtual field trip to Yellowstone National Park.  Mrs. Flynn’s 2nd grade class decided to join us for the Skype call too because volcanoes are really cool.
