Microsoft Redmond Reflection 2015

MY DREAM CAME TRUE AT E2

MyMoment

Ever since I can remember, I have always been drawn to Microsoft Technologies, whilst working in corporate and academic training environments for more than 25 years – it all started at UCT, many moons ago, and two of my biggest dreams were to visit THE Microsoft building, or to work for Microsoft.

Thank you, Microsoft, for making one of my dreams come true during 2015!  The opportunity to be physically present @ Microsoft Redmond, Building 92, was awesome!

Superpowers for PowerPoint – using of OfficeMix in the Inquiry Cycle

“SUPERPOWERS really?” my first thought when OfficeMix was introduced to me. At that time, I didn’t think anything could make PowerPoint better as it already gives my lessons an edge so what can this new tool do for me. Being curious by nature I thought I’ll give it a try. The introduction to add-in just said, ‘Office Mix allows you to turn your PowerPoints into interactive online lessons or presentations’ but that surely is being modest about it.  As I explored the superpowers of OfficeMix, I was able to generate many ideas of what I now do with my newly acquired superpowers.… Visit the author's original post

TeachMeet | JABI Secondary School

#MIEExpert15SkypeTeachMeet

This afternoon I participated at a TeachMeet for the Jabi Government Secondary School, Abuja, Nigeria.  Their stunning school website is located at http://www.gssjabi.com/

Thank you to Wellington Oboh for inviting me as a presenter to share the Microsoft Educator Network and Office Mix. It was great to see all the smiling, happy faces throughout the Skype session. I shared my screen in order to present on MSEN, then used the same presentation as an OfficeMix example explaining how one would add Office Mix via the mix.office.com website directly into PowerPoint, the features of Mix as well as a few design considerations.

MIEExpert15 Greatest Moments to Date

Being chosen as an Microsoft Innovative Expert Educator for 2015 has provided me with the most amazing “learning” MOMENTS to date. Support and involvement from Microsoft South Africa and Globally has been absolutely phenomenal.

Did you know that Microsoft provides such “directed learning” pathways for teachers, students and individuals to professionally develop themselves?

It is extremely important for teachers to engage in their own PD in order to engage students. Every single day I am learning new technologies, new updates, gaining new collaborations and so on.… Visit the author's original post

MSEN | the Ultimate PLN and PD for Teachers

OfficeMixMSEN

The above Mix is a walk-thorough of the features of the Microsoft Educator Network using OfficeMix as the delivery tool. Click the image to view the mix. This presentation was created as a resource [using OfficeMix] for a Skype call with teachers from Nigeria to share with them the benefits of the MSEN.

Teachers are often apprehensive about changing the way they deliver their lessons. This is not always because they do not want to move forward. Often the mindset is due to the enormous about of time that the change will absorb from their already burdened workload [which is absolutely appreciated, ask me…I know, and I’m sure you do too!]

One can spend a lot of time browsing the net and not really “finding anything of value” if you do not know where to look or do not have a PLN or support.… Visit the author's original post

Dedicated Teachers from Abuja | Skype Call

Well it certainly has been a very busy time in “my world ” the past few months! Hence the lack of posting to my blog due to organising a wedding, starting a new position, and just getting involved in helping others through social media. 2015 has started off with very positive interactions and I am most certainly looking forward to getting involved, and challenging myself this year!

On Friday at 16h00 Nigerian time, I was invited by Wellington Oboh [Principal Education Officer at FCTA SEB] to address his teachers from the Anglican Girls Grammar School in Abuja, Nigeria.… Visit the author's original post

Resümee der MS Innovation & Edcuation Konferenz 2014

msie14-mathiaskurtyuri
msie14-mathiaskurtyuri

Visit the author's original post

Surface Pro 3 – A foundation for Innovative Teaching and Learning

Guest Post by Troy Thomson - Microsoft Expert Educator

Now two months in, and the Surface Pro3 is over the initial hurdles that any new device suffers from. It has been very well received by independent reviewers and the general public alike who have purchased the device in any of its available configurations. But can it make an impact in educational circles?

Whilst the previous versions of the Surface made their ways into schools, there was very little momentum built and some of this was to do with device design, some to do with marketing and some to do with school leaders not understanding how this device indeed was different.… Visit the author's original post
