Marjolein Hoekstra is a technologist, internet consultant and certified OneNote instructor based in the Netherlands: "My greatest inspiration comes from the - virtual - twinkle in people's eyes when they realize they can build something meaningful by connecting bits of information. It's right then when their enthusiasm will drive them to share what they have just learned and pass that on to peers in their network. For me, it's this synergy that makes reaching out to other professionals so incredibly rewarding. I hope to keep doing this for a very long time to come."

Why You Should Add Context to Social Media Updates

The words context and contextualize are frequently recurring topics in conversations I have with people who request constructive feedback about their social media updates. The short version is: I persistently encourage everyone to add context to their posts.

But what is context and why is it important? The keyword basically means that you provide your audience with additional information about your subject.

Some questions you could ask yourself are:
– What is it I am sharing or demonstrating?
– Why am I sharing it in the first place?… Visit the author's original post

How to Organize a Twitter Q&A Session or TweetMeet

Let’s say you are invited to organize and host your own live Questions and Answers (Q&A) session on Twitter, also known as a ‪#‎TweetMeet‬. How do you go about if you’ve never done this before?

2015-01-18_14-31-18

Organizing a TweetMeet requires quite a bit of preparation to make it run smooth once your event is live. The best approach is to write a complete scenario. Figure out what it is that you need to make it into a success and also envision what might go wrong.… Visit the author's original post

The Importance of Context and Content Curation

The words ‘context’ and ‘contextualize’ are frequently recurring topics in the conversations I have with friends who publish on the web and on social media. I persistently encourage everyone to add context to their posts.

But what is context and why is it important? The keyword basically means that you provide your audience with additional information about your subject.

Some questions you could ask yourself are:

– What is it I am demonstrating?

Marjolein Hoekstra

I'm a technologist based in the Netherlands.

When I first started teaching hands-on IT courses in the late '80s [!], a frequently heard question was: "Marjolein, how can you so easily tell what it was that I did wrong here and also fix it so quickly?" My answer would always be: "Well, the thing is: I made this very same mistake myself before." Those students instantly felt better!

Since then I've tremendously enjoyed giving workshops on a whole range of IT-related topics.… Visit the author's original post

Microsoft Innovation Educators News Radar: http://bit.ly/mieexpert15-news-radar

Technical background:

———————————

The news radar is created using self-hosted WordPress. The heavy feed-lifting is done by the FeedWordPress syndication plug-in for WordPress, by Charles Johnson.

You’ll probably notice that at the moment the order of the items is by date added, not by date published. I’m hoping that as soon as mieexpert15 participants post new items, the update mechanism will automatically put these items at the top. Please go ahead and play with the site.… Visit the author's original post
